Leça do Balio Monastery, which houses the headquarters of Fundação Livraria Lello and the Church of Santa Maria de Leça do Balio, is located in the parish of Custóias, Leça do Balio and Guifões, in the municipality of Matosinhos, Porto District. Situated near the mouth of the River Leça and forming part of the Camino de Santiago, Leça do Balio Monastery has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.

In response to the growing concern over disinformation, identified by the World Economic Forum as the greatest threat of 2024, Fundação Livraria Lello presents “Act The Thought”. In partnership with the InsideOut project by renowned artist JR, and co-curated with UNESCO’s Media and Information Literacy Alliance, this exhibition invites critical dialogue and strengthens information literacy, engaging everyone in a collective effort for truth. The exhibition includes a sound installation by contemporary artist Diana Policarpo, offering a reflection on how we exercise our freedom in the contemporary era. Admission is free, upon booking through the Livraria Lello or Fundação Livraria Lello website.

At Leça do Balio Monastery, you can also discover Siza Vieira’s Open Sculpture. This contemporary landmark aims to highlight the role that Leça do Balio Monastery has played in its relationship with the Portuguese Way of Saint James. This space of ecumenical spirituality presents a dynamic interaction between light and form. Built in white concrete, the 400 m² sculpture features the “Viandante” (Wayfarer), recalling the mission of this space as an invitation to journey. Admission is paid, and tickets can be purchased through the Livraria Lello or Fundação Livraria Lello website.

The estimated duration of the visit is 90–120 minutes, including a visit to Siza Vieira’s Open Sculpture and a short walk along the Leça River walkway.
