Antologia de Poesia Erótica, by Bocage

Compiled from various available editions of Bocage's poetry, Antologia de Poesia Erótica is a compilation of the author's erotic and love writing, widely censored over time and specifically during the Estado Novo. Fernando Pinto do Amaral was responsible for selecting the poems that make up this anthology, whose goal, according to him, was to disseminate Bocage's erotic poetry, both in an explicit and even pornographic sense, as well as in the general field of love.

Bocage

Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage was born in Setúbal on September 15, 1765. In 1783, he enlisted in the Royal Academy of the Navy, where he began to participate in the bohemian life and became interested in literature, becoming known for his satirical poems. He was arrested and condemned by the Inquisition, due to his known sympathy for the French Revolution and for being a "dangerous and dissolute heretic" in customs. His poetry touches on various themes, including love, which often takes on an erotic aspect, freedom, jealousy, and death.
