Criptinas, by João de Deus

This is a pamphlet of erotic poetry, an extremely rare title. The collection of obscene poetry refers to figures or events with some popularity in Lisbon, during his lifetime.

João de Deus

Born on March 8, 1830, in São Bartolomeu de Messines, João de Deus was an eminent lyric poet. His name is often associated with "Cartilha Maternal”, an educational work published in 1876, intended to serve as the basis for a method of teaching reading to children. He died in Lisbon on January 11, 1896, and was buried in the National Pantheon.
