António Lobo Antunes was born in Lisbon in 1942. He studied psychiatric medicine, a specialty he practiced for several years. In 1979, he published his first books, "Memória de Elefante" and "Os Cus de Judas." He is one of the most read and discussed contemporary authors, in Portugal and worldwide. His literary work has been the subject of various studies and important national and international awards over the years. His work is translated into numerous idioms.
