Camilo and (In)visibility: Medicine, Literature and History
Livraria Lello, in partnership with the Museum of the São João University Hospital Centre, is promoting the meeting ‘Camilo and (In)visibility: Medicine, Literature and History’, dedicated to the relationship between the life and work of Camilo Castelo Branco. The event highlights the impact of the writer's loss of vision on his writing and invites reflection on how literary creation can resist and flourish in the face of adversity.
We present Camilo Castelo Branco's glasses and historical instruments for measuring vision, as well as original documents that bear witness to this intimate dimension of his biography.
With an inclusive character, accessible to blind people, the meeting reinforces, with the participation of José Paulo Andrade, coordinator of the FMUP Museums, Amândio Rocha Sousa, director of Ophthalmology at ULS São João, Jorge Sobrado, Vice-President of CCDR-Norte, and João Habitualmente, poet, Livraria Lello's mission to make literature a space for sharing, knowledge and inclusion.
4 November, 9 P.M., at Livraria Lello.
