A Christmas Carol was published on December 19, 1843, and by Christmas Eve, just five days later, the 6,000-issue edition was out of print. The work quickly became one of Dickens' most appreciated and met new prints that successively sold out. Today, 178 years later, it is a true Christmas hymn.
