Constança Entrudo designs Livraria Lello's new uniforms
Designer Constança Entrudo proposes a contemporary reinterpretation of the librarian core imagery, starting from the traditional clothing associated with bookshops and transforming it into a functional, comfortable and modern uniform.
The prints developed for the Livraria Lello uniforms originate from the building's architecture itself. They were inspired by the bookshop's original panels.
The original panels of Livraria Lello are integrated into the building's architecture as a continuous visual language. Their organic motifs, which run across walls and shelves, evoke growth, accumulation and circulation — principles associated with the way knowledge is built, transmitted and transformed over time. More than decorative elements, these panels function as a visual metaphor for expanding knowledge, reinforcing the bookshop as a living space for learning, memory and discovery.
These architectural elements were reinterpreted by Constança Entrudo, transformed into designs and then painted by hand, giving rise to exclusive prints that establish a dialogue between space, history and the body in motion.
The woven label on the uniforms recovers a foundational reference: the lottery won by Ernesto Chardron, who was at the origin of Livraria Lello and became a tradition among booksellers, linking memory, craft and continuity.
These elements were reinterpreted by the Constança Entrudo studio, resulting in a graphic detail that reinforces the connection between heritage, memory and contemporaneity.
