María Dueñas, Em Nome Próprio: Livraria Lello's intimate segment
On 4 September, at 9 p.m., Livraria Lello welcomes María Dueñas, one of today's most widely read and translated Spanish authors, for another session of Em Nome Próprio (In Her Own Name). More than just presenting her new novel, Se um dia voltarmos (Porto Editora), the writer will share her career, concerns and affections, the invisible layers that shape her work and her literary voice.
Created by Livraria Lello, Em Nome Próprio is an intimate cycle that goes beyond the logic of book presentations. Here, literature meets life, revealing the author beyond the pages: the identity, memories, experiences and sensibility that become narrative. After Teolinda Gersão, it is now María Dueñas' turn. A cult author, with millions of copies sold worldwide and translated into more than 35 languages. Her debut novel, The Time Between Seams, was a global phenomenon and gave rise to a television series that became a cultural landmark in Spain and, later, a musical that toured the country.
Since then, Dueñas has built a literary universe marked by strong and resilient female protagonists, women who go through adverse times and who, by reinventing themselves, offer readers narratives of resistance, identity and hope. Works such as The Vineyards of La Templanza, The Captain's Daughters and Sira have confirmed her place as one of the most universal and inspiring voices in contemporary Spanish literature.
At Livraria Lello, the public will discover the author in an intimate and personal setting. The session will open with a conversation led by Livraria Lello, revealing the writer beyond the pages. This will be followed by an interview with journalist Cláudia Aguiar Rodrigues (Antena 1), dedicated to the new novel and its creative process. And, as an epilogue, a musical moment chosen by the guest herself, performed by Porto musician Rui David. Music thus becomes another key to understanding the author, because it too is identity, memory and narrative.
At a time when the connection between authors and readers is often mediated by digital technology, Em Nome Próprio rescues the value of direct and authentic encounters, transforming each session into a unique experience.
