ENTRANCE TO LIVRARIA LELLO

Camões Prize winner Pepetela is Livraria Lello's Author of the Month

pp

In yet another celebration of Lusophone literature, Livraria Lello presents the renowned Angolan writer Pepetela as November's Author of the Month. On 15 November at 9pm, the Most Beautiful Bookshop in the World will host a special session where readers and admirers of the author's work will have the opportunity to hear and learn more about Pepetela's history and contribution to Portuguese-language literature and culture.

Pepetela, the pen name of Artur Carlos Maurício Pestana dos Santos, stands out for his engaging and socially critical writing, in which he mostly reflects on Angola's history and challenges, such as the struggle for independence and social inequality. With a vast literary output, including works such as Mayombe, Predators and The Generation of Utopia, Pepetela is one of the most influential authors of contemporary Angolan literature and was honoured with the Camões Prize in 1997.

Livraria Lello, known as one of the most iconic venues for celebrating literature, is reaffirming its commitment to promoting Portuguese-language authors and celebrating the literary diversity of the entire Portuguese-speaking world with this initiative. The choice of Pepetela as November's Author of the Month thus reinforces Livraria Lello's role as a cultural meeting point where writers and readers can dialogue about stories that reflect society and the present time.
