Wizard of Oz lights up Christmas mornings at Livraria Lello
In the countdown to Christmas Day, Livraria Lello welcomes a very special visitor from a faraway land. Every weekend until Christmas Day, the Wizard of Oz will be present at the most beautiful bookshop in the world — bringing the magic of Oz with him.
This Christmas, Livraria Lello is inspired by L. Frank Baum's book ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to bring colour and joy to Porto. On her way to the Emerald City, featured in the windows of this century-old bookshop, Dorothy meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Together, they discover their virtues: intelligence, love and courage.
This ode to friendship is featured in the book published by The Little Collection, which specialises in children's and young adult titles. With text by Adélia Carvalho and illustrations by Gonçalo Viana (awarded the 2021 Communication Arts illustration prize), the book can be read by the whole family, as it is also available in Pop Collection and The Collection — and in several languages.
On 7 (Sunday), 21 (Saturday) and 24 December (Wednesday and Christmas Eve), from 10am to 12pm, the great wizard jumps out of the pages of the book to liven up the bookshop.
Dressed in his emerald green suit, the Wizard of Oz welcomes all visitors and makes the visit even more special for children. Admission to the bookshop on 24 December, Christmas Eve, is free and no booking is required.
Throughout the year, Livraria Lello transforms visitors into readers. To visit, simply purchase a voucher ticket on the bookshop's website, the value of which is fully deductible from any book purchase.
