ENTRANCE TO LIVRARIA LELLO

Eduardo Souto Moura at Livraria Lello: The Future of Cities

pp
This Thursday, 23 January, at 9pm, Livraria Lello kicks off the ‘Conversations on the Future’ cycle, a space dedicated to reflection and debate on the major challenges shaping the present and the future.

This cycle will feature leading figures from various fields, providing a unique opportunity to explore ideas and perspectives aimed at understanding the changing world.

The first conversation will be dedicated to ‘The Future of Cities’ and will feature Eduardo Souto Moura, winner of the Pritzker Prize - the world's highest award for architecture - in 2011. In dialogue with economist Jaime Quesado, Souto Moura will reflect on the evolution of cities, the role of architecture in building more sustainable and humane urban spaces, and the challenges facing cities today.
Among his most emblematic projects are the Braga Municipal Stadium, an icon of contemporary architecture that blends into the landscape, the Sintra Art Museum, or the Casa das Artes in Porto, a remarkable intervention in urban regeneration. Souto Moura's work reveals an architecture of contrasts, where the modernity of concrete and other industrial materials is balanced by precision and subtlety in the treatment of space and dialogue with history.

In addition to the Pritzker Prize, which recognised his career for its consistency and vision over the years, Eduardo Souto Moura was also awarded the Golden Lion at the 2018 Venice Biennale for his intervention in the Palace of Justice in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Don't miss the opportunity to reflect on the future of cities with one of the most prestigious names in contemporary architecture. Admission is free, but subject to registration (see link).
