Amores de Perdição, Livraria Lello Wants to Tell Your Story

pp
On Camilo Castelo Branco's bicentenary and the 119th anniversary of the ‘most beautiful bookshop in the world’, we're looking for the most ‘crazy love story’.

‘The greatest love stories don't just belong in books - life often writes the craziest and most unforgettable romances’. This is what Livraria Lello says, and under the motto of love it will flood its 2025 programme, marking the bicentenary of Camilo Castelo Branco's birth.
The bookshop is launching a competition to find the most touching love stories from Porto and Northern Portugal. The Livraria is looking for real, intense, out-of-the-box love stories, whether happy or unhappy, conventional or unexpected, and promises to eternalise ‘the craziest love for your person’.
The selected ‘love stories’ will be rewarded with an exclusive experience on Valentine's Day, 14 February, a symbolic gesture that eternalises love, just like the pages of a great classic. For each story, a novel will be chosen by Livraria Lello's booksellers, with ingredients similar to that experience, and offered to the winners as a tribute to their passion. But there's more... The winners will also have the opportunity to visit the Gemma Room, where we keep the most intense and crazy love stories, such as Bob Dylan's Love Letters and a new surprise. A novelty that mixes music, passion, tragedy... and which will be revealed first hand on Valentine's Day. A secret kept on the shelves of Livraria Lello that promises to make hearts beat faster.
Applications can be sent to mailto:opencasting@averara.pt.

‘At Livraria Lello, love is lived every day. Passionate declarations, marriage proposals and promises of eternal love take place among our shelves and inspire us to celebrate love in unique ways.
It was this intensity that led us to acquire Bob Dylan's Love Letters, a gesture that honours the strength and madness of love.
This year, we're taking another step with a significant investment in a collection that reflects the passion and tragedy that so often accompany great love stories. Because sometimes ‘love is a losing game’, but it is precisely this intensity that makes it unforgettable and transformative. It is this dimension of love, with all its beauty and depth, that we want to share with lovers on Valentine's Day,’ says Francisca Pinto, brand manager at Livraria Lello.
Like the great story of Simão and Teresa, the protagonists of Amor de Perdição, the bookshop believes that there will be many ‘crazy loves of theirs’ scattered around Porto. And it's these same stories that it wants to hear and tell! First in the form of videos, shared on their social networks, and then in the form of a novel that will be selected by Livraria Lello's booksellers, representing the essence of the story shared.

Those selected will also have the opportunity to enjoy a visit to Livraria Lello, which turned 119 in 2025, celebrating the bicentenary of Camilo Castelo Branco's birth. This tribute also materialises in the bookshop's shop windows, decorated with antique pieces from Felipa Almeida's personal collection and ceramic pieces produced specifically for the celebrations.
Amongst the decorative objects, the cream linen curtains and all the antique convent-inspired wooden furniture, which refer to the universe of the book ‘Amor de Perdição’, stand out and can be seen until April.
