Livraria Lello celebrated its 119th anniversary on 13 January with open doors and a number of surprises for visitors. As part of the celebrations, and bearing in mind that 2025 will be the ‘Year of Love’, we launched a challenge to Portuguese restaurants: rebrand the classic ‘Romeo and Juliet’ dessert, made with cheese and marmalade, as ‘Simão and Teresa’.
This initiative, carried out in partnership with AHRESP - Associação da Hotelaria, Restauração e Similares de Portugal, pays tribute to the bicentenary of the birth of Camilo Castelo Branco and his masterpiece ‘Amor de Perdição’. The new name evokes the novel's protagonists, Teresa de Albuquerque and Simão Botelho, immortalised in Portuguese literature.
Several national restaurants have already joined the challenge, including the Porto restaurants ‘Ernesto’, ‘O Gaveto’, ‘Rogério do Redondo’, ‘Cafeína’, ‘Terra’, ‘Porta Rossa’, ‘Lucrécia’ and ‘Casa Vasco’.
